Post Graduate

The objective of the Post Graduate course in Mathematics is to instil the mathematical ability among mentees with logical, analytical and problem solving skills and enable the students to solve the real problems through mathematical modelling and scientific approach.

The course of Post Graduation in Mathematics is a 2 year programme with 4 semesters. In the first semester, the students learn the basics of Algebra - I, Topology - I, Real Analysis Ordinary differential equations and Discrete Mathematics as Core subjects.

2 Soft Cores, Elementary Number theory, Basic Statistics - I are introduced. The third Soft Core: Inclusive learning, wherein the students are enlightened to their societal responsibility. Algebra - II, Complex analysis, Topology - II, Partial Differential Equations and Functional Analysis are taught as Cores in the Second semester along with 2 Soft Cores Numerical Analysis - I and Basic Statistics – II.

In the third semester, students learn Linear Algebra, Differential Geometry, Mathematical Methods, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Modelling & Classical Mechanics as Core subjects with the one Soft Core: Linear Programming and Queuing Theory. Also in this semester students have to choose one Open Elective paper other than the cores they have studied in their graduation.

In the last fourth semester, Students are exposed to advanced analysis: Measure theory and measure integration and have to select 3 Cores from A: Special Functions, B: Theory of Numbers, C: Magnetohydrodynamics, D: Fluid Dynamics of ocean and atmosphere, E: Finite element method with applications, F: Graph theory, G: Riemannian Geometry, H: entire and Meromorphic Functions, I: Computational Fluid Dynamics and J: Design and Analysis of Algorithms.

One Soft Core on Soft skills and Personality development and One Compulsory Research Project with an exposure of paper presentation at National or International Conference and publication in reputed journals or in the proceedings.

FOSS Tools like Scilab, Maxima, Python, LaTeX and Beamer are imparted respectively in the four semesters and this will enable the students acquire the programming skills and application of the same in science and technology.
