Familiarize with major groups of plants from simple lower to complex higher forms along with a focus on the line of evolution
Understand the distribution, life cycle and significance of microorganisms
Develop skill for observing internal structure of plants
Gain information on plant fossils
Learn the concept of embryology that leads to fruit and seed formation in higher plants
Make a comparative account of various families of flowering plants
Learn the techniques of plant propagation, hybridization and tissue culture methods
Apply basic knowledge of physiology in horticulture.

Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on the diversity of plants
Obtain technical skills like identification, mounting, sectioning and dissecting plants of diverse forms
Identification, collection, preservation and also utilization of economically important plants.
Awareness on microbial world, its role in plant diseases and its management
Basic and applied aspects of environmental science and phytogeography
Acquaint knowledge of Plant metabolism
